When it comes to harnessing human capital for social impact, and helping young people in particular, many programs overlook a human resource that’s right nearby: The fastest-growing segment of American society – people over 60 years old – is also the most likely to have the 10 to 12 hours a month to invest in a child’s future that, studies show, can make a positive difference in a young life. It’s my hope that this rapidly growing demographic wave will redefine ‘post-midlife’ in ways that hold great potential, for themselves and for rising generations, as the encore movement gains momentum and begins to change our society.
