The mission of our nonprofit, Eyes on Africa is to provide eyeglasses at no cost to Africans through distribution in communities with no access to vision care.

This idea just “fell” on me when I gave a South African woman my spare pair of reading glasses. Millie and her friends in Mbarara, Uganda had given up reading three years ago because they could no longer see the words. They fell to their knees in thanks when they received their reading glasses. She and her friends were overwhelmed with joy and praise, and I knew we had to find a way to get eyeglasses to Africa.

We provide eyeglasses at no cost to Africans with no access to vision care. We purchase new reading glasses and take or send them to distribution partners in various African countries, resulting in 3-7000 people receiving eyeglasses each year. Even teachers and nurses cannot afford simple reading glasses.

Older workers bring a wealth of experience, knowledge, and energy to their pursuits, whether it be the work place or the non-profit sector. We should never discount the contributions of the very young, or the elderly, for passion has no age requirement.
