My grandmother depended on Social Security for survival, and it remains a vital protection for those who cannot work later in life. Yet I believe that, given the new pattern of longer, healthier working lives, the moment is right to think about revamping aspects of Social Security, so people interested in different paths in the second half of life have the support they need and have worked to provide.
