With a looming economic meltdown brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, there are estimates that the United States’ unemployment rate could rise to 15%, 20% or even 30% in the coming weeks. That will mean millions of people are unemployed and looking for work.

But as the saying goes, “as one door closes, another one opens.” So the loss of a job and perhaps long-time career, may represent the opportunity to try something new and launch a second act.

For perspective on navigating this challenge, the Second Act Stories podcast invited two of the nation’s leading experts on career and workplace issues: Marci Alboher and Kerry Hannon.

Marci Alboher is a Vice President at Encore.org, author of The Encore Career Handbook: How to Make a Living and a Difference in the Second Half of Life and former New York Times workplace columnist.

Kerry Hannon has written 12 books on career transitions and personal finance as well as literally hundreds of articles for The New York Times, Forbes, Money, USA Today, US News and World Report and AARP.
