Do experienced adults change young lives for the better? Our newest video shows that the answer is a resounding “yes.”
Along with The Corporation for National and Community Service, Encore.org is celebrating Senior Corps Week (May 16-20), which honors experienced adults enriching our civic life through service.
We visited an education center run by Proyecto Pastoral, in a working-class neighborhood of Los Angeles, where a dedicated band of Senior Corps tutors work 15 to 40 hours a week with eager preschoolers – kids who could otherwise fall behind in school readiness.
See for yourself: Watch our 2:00 video about the undeniable results of the “grandparent” effect – and the joy the work brings the volunteers.
The grandparents are trained by our friends at the nonprofit Jumpstart, to implement a preschool language and literacy curriculum.
Enjoy!
