“We need to tell new stories, lifting the voices that have too often gone unheard, and helping people to share power through relationships. I’m excited to build on my experience at The Cares Family in bringing older and younger people together to build relationships and reduce loneliness across social, generational and attitudinal divides.”

London, UK

Alex Smith is founder and CEO of The Cares Family, a group of community networks of young professionals and older neighbours hanging out and helping one another. Its goal: to reduce loneliness and polarisation in some of the UK’s fastest changing cities.

In 2018, Smith was appointed one of the inaugural 20 Obama Foundation Fellows, selected from over 20,000 applicants from around the world. In 2019, The Cares Family started work on new projects to further amplify the action, voice and power in communities to help individuals, businesses and government to prioritise relationships in their everyday work.
