I remember July 1, 2011 as I said “See ya” to my colleagues and friends and fellows who had been a part of my family at Baptist Health Care. I said to them that, in my butterfly persona, I truly had to fly to another point of view and this is my view of volunteering as a part of my mission to offer Fruit of the Spirit as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and a God-controlled self, soul and spirit everyday.
I started volunteering as a nursing student 48 years ago and it has always been in my activities of daily living. I continued as I did undergraduate and graduate work. My family background is giving while we are living, so that is my main motivation.
Today I serve in faith, community and country as a minister, American Cancer Society, Tennessee Cancer Coalition, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, Mid-South Comfort Care coalition as speaker, trainer and volunteer in my Tennessee Congressional District. I now do a Wy’s Ways of Wellness BlogTalk radio show.
I always say to my young SFAMs (Sister Friends and Mentors) that they have youth, strength and passion and that I would enjoy hooking up to the soul and spirit of my older, wiser and compassionate caring self, to make us the “Wy’s Joyful Company” which is the name of my wellness speaker and consulting company.
