After a long human resources and administrative corporate career, I currently serve as a Core Faculty Member at DePaul University’s School for New Learning – its college for adult learners.

In this work, I am able to mentor, advise and teach non-traditional college students (some of whom are in their 50s and 60s). It s a pleasure to guide them on their paths to long-deferred academic dreams.

I finished my own degree as a mature learner and went on to earn both a masters and doctorate in adult and continuing education. In my own education, I discovered much of what I didn’t know I didn’t know, including a passion for working with mature learners. This is my opportunity to give back.

Below is an excerpt from a recent message I receive from a student: €œThanks for all your guidance and encouragement. I am truly enjoying your class. You bring so much energy, insight and enthusiasm. Despite our challenging coursework, you make our time in class so enjoyable!

What I would like the world to know about the contribution older workers can make is that it isn’t over until it’s over! That goes for both one’s own encore career and also to one’s ability to be a lifelong learner – which, I believe can put one on a path to vibrant aging!
