Introducing Aaron Dorfman, Encore.org Vice President and Campaign Director

Ann MacDougall and I are delighted to announce the addition of Aaron Dorfman to the Encore.org leadership team, in the role of Vice President and Campaign Director for Encore.org’s upcoming initiative engaging encore talent in the lives of children and youth. After a long search, we were delighted to find Aaron, who brings a deep commitment to social change and a powerful track record in leading large-scale campaigns and programs.

Aaron comes to Encore.org after a decade at American Jewish World Service (AJWS), where he oversaw grant-making, volunteer service and political advocacy efforts to support human rights in the Global South. Most recently, he was the architect and leader of AJWS’s domestic community organizing initiative, mobilizing grassroots activists across the United States to advocate for human rights in U.S. foreign policy. Managing staff in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., Aaron rallied support from the Jewish community to make the international food aid system more effective and more just; he also worked to promote LGBT rights throughout the Global South and advance the International Violence Against Women Act, which was introduced in Congress in 2015.

Aaron holds a BA with Honors from the University of Wisconsin and a Masters in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School. He also serves on the board of Coney Island Prep, South Brooklyn’s first charter school. In his own words, “I’m thrilled to join the Encore.org team to lead efforts to mobilize experienced adults to dedicate their time, talents and expertise to help children thrive. This campaign represents a remarkable opportunity to bring to bear a huge talent pool to address the critical challenges facing young people in this country. And in this era of increasing social division and fragmentation, I’m incredibly excited to bring people together across generational divides to elevate our shared sense of mutual responsibility, compassion and purpose.”

Aaron lives in Brooklyn with his wife and three daughters. He will be working out of Encore.org’s New York office and can be reached at [email protected].

(In laying the foundation for this campaign, we have been fortunate to work closely with Joe McCannon, Becky Margiotta and their team at The Billions Institute, to whom we express our sincere gratitude.)
